Sport/s you play:
Athletics, Swimming, Soccer and Skiing.
What is your favourite sport and why do you love it?
Athletics! I love the smell of the hot sun on the track (which is a bit weird) plus I also love the free feeling when I’m running.
How did you become involved in your sport?
Through school sport, Cerebral Palsy Alliance Sports Programs and Little Athletics.
How often do you have to train and what does a typical training session involve?
I go to running training twice a week with Mel Gainsford Taylor, swim once a week and do some core exercises at home or the gym. I also compete on weekends or go to Little Athletics. At running training I do a mix of sprints and longer distance training.
What is the hardest part about playing your chosen sport?
Getting anxious before a race and juggling homework and training.
Describe any challenges you’ve had to overcome to develop your skills in your chosen sport.
The main challenge I have is that I was born with Cerebral Palsy. It means I have super tight muscles on the whole right side of my body. It affects my balance, form and speed. I compete in sport as a Para Athlete.
Do you have goals you are training to achieve in your chosen sport?
Getting my form correct and going to the Paralympics one day.
Who inspires you?
My coach: Mel Gainsford Taylor because she is super encouraging, inspiring and understanding of my disability.
What do you want to be when you’re older?
A Paralympian and an exercise Physiologist.
What is your greatest sporting achievement to date?
I have a couple…winning Gold in the 1500m at the Australian Junior Championships this year and when I was announced as NSW girl team captain at the National Cross Country Championships last month.
What is your next competition?
I am off to Darwin in 10 days to represent NSW at the National Athletics Championships. I’m so excited!
